Restitution—a powerful word, highly charged in our world in ways I will not touch. Intended for individuals, families, and entire communities.
A dictionary definition, “the restoration of something lost or stolen to its proper owner.”
What of emotional restitution? To children, adults, souls passed. Returning their peace, safety, their honor, the space of their memory, the warmth and trust taken away—or never given.
We all seek something. Something missing by circumstance, by nature, or nurture. Or freedom from something done, something taken on purpose, or through ignorance, inflicted.
If we live long enough, sometimes, the quality is returned, the lack is restored, created, or given. It is a simple question—what would you wish to be restored?
